Who we are and what we do?

We are group of international students from DNS, The Necessary Teacher Training College, who just returned from a 4-month study travel across western Africa! We are offering the knowledge we gained from people on this travel, using a variety of different online tools, in order to overcome the obstacles, created by this pandemic situation and to reach You and your friends with this series of products available on the internet for free. The shared content runs under the title ” Voices of Empowerment”. Topics will range from climate change to social/political issues to religion and culture, all flavoured with some fun and joy. We hope for people to come back to us day by day because we want to keep interested people engaged with our repertoir of questions, discussions, games, lessons and many other things we prepared by ourselves.

The ten of us and our two teachers, travelled to Morocco, Western-Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau and The Gambia by bus to learn about elements of Africa, to greater understand poverty and the issues that people are facing there. We believe that learning through experiences and actions allowed us to truly start to understand these realities, which we would not have managed just from books or films. How we travelled and why? What values do we believe in, or what principles are behind our practices? Find out more about these in the previous introduction video of our team.

This travel was a great opportunity to improve our critical thinking and challenge our comfort zone. Throughout these upcoming 6 weeks we would like You to experience something similar and to gain a glance about the countries we visited or to get inspiration out of the stories we are about to share.

We believe that it is important and relevant for our public to hear the messages we are bringing, because they show perhaps a perspective that you have not come across before.

Meet you, with our next publishment, can’t wait to „hear Your voice”!

Course: The Cuban Literacy Campaign

The Cuban Literacy Campaign and the participation of women in the campaign significantly impacted the Cuban patriarchal culture at a crucial moment. In other words, though a male-led revolution did not give women the space to organise against patriarchy, rather by actively participating in the revolution, women helped change the nature of Cuban patriarchy today.

Common Meetings

What is a common meeting? How is it structured? What happened at this meeting? Who attends a common meeting? What things are dicussed? These questions set up the framework to one of these meetings.

The Invisible Wall

The Invisible WallsThere is such a huge contrast in going through different countries on land. Not by flying and suddenly arriving to a place, but gradually traveling through landscapes. The scenery changes slowly, our eyes adapt to the shift in various forms,...

What is Quality Education and who are We to say what is quality?

We can learn from everyone and anyone.
There is so much learning that can be done around us all the time if we just open our eyes to the opportunities and open our minds to the possibilities.
These things have touched my heart rather than my head, I was incredibly humbled by the humanity I encountered.

Is there such a thing as “West African Culture”?

Voices of EmpowermentIs there such a thing as “West African Culture”? To begin with, from my experience and understanding, culture is a mixture of various elements like language, traditions, beliefs, mentality - all within a specific social group.  Let it be a nation,...

What empowers us?

Borbala, 22, Hungary

“To breathe fresh air
Move with the wind
Absorb the sun

To see the infinity in nature and the reflection of it in our mind
The power of freedom to dance, to let our voices out and sing

To be reminded to my infinite power by encountering adventures and people and meeting the diversity of cultures

To create life on empty soil”

Elisa, 21, Italy

“What empowers me and keeps me inspired is Nature: while observing its resilience, its strength and daintiness, its innate ability to make everything coexist in harmony, it allows everything to be in harmony within myself.”

Noemi, 20, Hungary

“I grew up in Hungarian Waldorf communities. I’m fond of Rudolf Steiner’s and Paulo Freire’s humanistic philosophies. They dreamt something out of the mainstream. What empowers me is planning, creating ideas that are born from unique dreams. Having inspiration that I can share gives the power to my hands to act.”

Nina, 22, Wales

“What empowers me, is when I am surrounded by passionate people who are showing their passion. I am inspired by love for niche subjects, uncontrolled excitement and the way people’s faces light up when they talk about their interests. I’m inspired by people who wholeheartedly express themselves and are unafraid of being a bit different. Passion is inspiring.”

Delia, 23, Spain

What empowers me? One of the most empowering moments I experience during this travel is when you give space to people to tell their stories, to share their point of view. If you give space and time to people to express themselves that empowers them and you at the same time. It is an amazing feeling that connects you with the world.

Francesco, 30, Italy

“When I accept and love the present moment, I feel I have won. Practically speaking, I try to choose the best action at every moment and always ask myself whether what I am doing right now really is the best I could be doing. By following this I feel I have a life worth reliving.”

Jack, 23, England

“Seeing people from all kinds of backgrounds with little training or experience achieve amazing things just by their own initiative, it really shows me that anyone can make an impact. Knowing that even those with less tools than me, are bringing about the change that I want to contribute to, I start to feel that so much is possible if you just have the courage just to start. That’s empowering.”

Sarah, 23, France

“Walking surrounded by trees or sand dunes, to sit down suddenly and listen to the life present there. Sharing a moment with someone that unexpectedly crossed your way. And getting warmed by the shared stories that are exchanged, under the light and sparkles of a fire nourrished by our presence, our talks and our silences.”

Jenifer, 24, Hungary

“The most empowering thing for me is community. Firstly, in a physical sense, to live together and go against all of the individualistic aloneness in the world. Secondly, to act together for a common goal. Community is to share a certain mindset, attitude with people. What could be more empowering?”

Gabriele, 19, Lithuania

“Curiosity is the most empowering force to me. It gives a push to search and reach for more. When I am curious I am willing to learn and experience, when I see curiosity in eyes of others it motivates me to continue and give everything I have in order to achieve a common goal. Curiosity is the beginning in the path of learning and expanding our consciousness.”

Vendy, 20, Czech Republic

“By traveling and learning I have had many realisations during my life. For example how the world is interconnected and how our actions can have effect people on the other side of the globe. People who I met, places that I visited, every experience I gained help me to improve myself. And that’s when I feel empowered.”

Sergey, 22, Latvia

“The huge range of possibilities that human body and human mind have. The amount of things that all of us can do and how the way of reaching the same goal can be different from each other makes me thinking about all possible ways, makes me extremely curios to go deeper into unknown.. When i think about it, how much I can actually do, I feel empowered.”

Realising how similar and different we all are around this globe, to hear and see passionates humans acting for what they believe in, uniting people around the globe. Being attentive to little details and moments than can make a change, listen, share, and act. These are inspiring moments, that showed me that it is possible to achieve a lot, if we are passionate and willing to do it.
