Vendy from DNS 2019

Who am I?

My name is Vendy. I am 19 years old. I come from a small village called Drnholec, which is situated in the Czech Republic. I could say about myself that I am a little person with a big heart. I try to have a positive look upon the world, to live in the moment and be grateful for everything that I have.

I have always known that being closed in an office everyday, rummaging through stacks of papers is not for me. Since I have always wanted to help animals, I decided to study at a veterinary high school.

My wish to study abroad

After graduating the school, I did not know what to do. All I knew is that I did not want to study at a university in the Czech Republic. According to my friends, who study at these universities, it is just full of senseless exams, stress and last minute learning. I just could not imagine doing it. Therefore I decided to take a different path. Since I was little, I have always wanted to travel around the world, learn about new cultures, and take interest in other people more than just in myself. After convincing my parents, the plan was set. Go abroad!

After sleepless nights spent on researching what I should actually do abroad, I came across the DNS website. I did not have any clue that something like this even existed. I really liked the combination of learning, travelling and working at the same time.

The concept of a teacher is quite different here in DNS

And here I am! Even though I was a little bit scared about becoming a teacher, since I have never dreamed of becoming one, I realised that the concept of the teacher is quite different here in DNS.

I‘ve always wanted to learn how to pass on information to more people. To motivate them not to be afraid to make a change in their life, that the planet on which they live is not indifferent to them, and make them realise how beautiful life can be when we are not afraid of it.

The year of 2020 at DNS

The year of 2020 at DNS

Dear everyone, This year turned out completely different than we had imagined. At the same time, so many things happened, just as we planned for. It has been a very productive and eventful year. Here are some of the things we have achieved together in 2020....

There are too many things I want to learn and share: being a teacher combines both – Svetlana, alumni and DNS Teacher

To choose the path of teaching took me some time, I must say. It started on my very first 1st of September, this is the day when the school year starts in Lithuania. I simply loved it. And I am not talking about the lessons and tests, but about all the kinds of people I got to interact with and about the learning process that was happening there, somehow in between lessons most of the time. Though I was in love with the school and Summer holidays always seemed too long of a break, I never thought I will become a teacher. It is now, when I reflect, I see lots of sense in my actions and choices that led me to choose this profession.

I like to find the beauty in what is around me, sometimes it only comes when I have my camera in hand, walking through city streets, noticing the glimmers of light shining through gaps between buildings or they way it gracefully dances along the clouds shortly before sunset.

I hope DNS will teach me the essential pedagogical skills that I will need in order to become the effective activist that I want to become, who uses education as a tool of mobilisation.
