Ruslan · DNS 2018

Britney Spears is a big influence. Huge. I think people thought I wa…wait, I think this is not the best way to start this description about myself. My name is Ruslan and I came from the very artistic and unique town in Lithuania called Visaginas. Coming from this background, I have never been extremely scared of challenges and, especially, people. So, searching for combination of these two things I found out about DNS College. And for me, this is a perfect combination of challenging programme and community lifestyle.

“I’ve always appreciated working with people I have chemistry with, who are friends, and where you feel that the work is growing while you are getting to know each other better” – this is from one of my favorite artists, Bjork. And this is the quote about one of my most favorite processes – discovering people; and because of this process, I have a possibility to expand my reality and point of view, because other’s opinion really matters.

But also, “I don’t expect people to get me. That would be quite arrogant. I think there are a lot of people out there in the world that nobody gets.” – guess what, this is another Bjork’s quote, which is very connected with me.

Sometimes I feel like I dance to the beat of a different drummer, than others. I have a feeling, that it can be different for some people to get my personality and humor. And this is completely fine, because we are all different; we express our emotions and thoughts differently. It’s very important to remember, that we are all people, with our own mindset stations. So, I really don’t expect people to understand me from the beginning, but when we are managing to build up the connection without any 404 errors – it works extremely well. By contributing our galaxies to each other, we can create something very unique, alternative and special together. People that want to complete other people’s vision are very important today, and I’m so grateful to be around them.

And I’m just looking forward to “skydive” in the upcoming programme. I really can’t wait to see how this turns out. It’s going to be a long way on a rocket to the planet of self-development and changes. And as the artist that you already know said: “People are always asking me about eskimos, but there are no eskimos in Iceland.”

carpe diem

xoxo

Interview with a DNS teacher – meet Svetlana

Interview with a DNS teacher – meet Svetlana

To choose the path of teaching took me some time, I must say. It started on my very first 1st of September, this is the day when the school year starts in Lithuania. I simply loved it. And I am not talking about the lessons and tests, but about all the kinds of people I got to interact with and about the learning process that was happening there, somehow in between lessons most of the time. Though I was in love with the school and Summer holidays always seemed too long of a break, I never thought I will become a teacher. It is now, when I reflect, I see lots of sense in my actions and choices that led me to choose this profession.

I like to find the beauty in what is around me, sometimes it only comes when I have my camera in hand, walking through city streets, noticing the glimmers of light shining through gaps between buildings or they way it gracefully dances along the clouds shortly before sunset.

I hope DNS will teach me the essential pedagogical skills that I will need in order to become the effective activist that I want to become, who uses education as a tool of mobilisation.
