FIRES: Be part of co-creating an interdisciplinary theatre performance!

We are looking for participants to be part of creating a theatre performance (FIRES) to present in Holstebro Festuge Festival. The aim is to investigate and express Social and Global Changes under the headline of contemporary Transformations through a multidisciplinary and participatory performance.

The project is a collaboration between AJARIOT and DNS and will happen from the 11th of May to the 14th of June. Physical theatre, video projections, photographs, interviews, merging of ancient and electronic music, sound experiments, will be the key languages of our research (as well as the individual talents and artistic wishes – dance, writing, poetry, etc).

The group will consist of 20 people, students and teachers from DNS and other participants that will be hosted in DNS college (Tvind) Campus. In case you are not able to cover your accommodation and food expenses, it is possible to apply for a scholarship.

Working Session:

  • Working session to develop and build artistic materials, from the 14 to 16 May and 20 to 23 of May in Tvind Campus – DNS College;
  • Networking and meeting with local associations;
  • Technical set up and rehearsals on site, from 25 May to 8 June (from 9:00 to 19:00) in Slagteriet – Holstebro
  • Local actions in the street in Holstebro to promote the performance, 6 and 7 June;
  • Performance in Slagteriet (Holstebro) from the 8 to the 12 June every evening at 19.00;
  • Technical disassembly 13 of June;
  • Closing Performance with all participants of Holstebro Festuge Festival on the 14 of June at 13.00.

What is Holstebro Festuge?

Holstebro Festuge is a 10-day arts and culture festival, organized by Odin Treatret, that takes place every three years in Denmark. It started in 1965 and it has grown to become one of the largest cultural events in Scandinavia with local, national and international artists.

What is AJARIOT?

AJARIOT is an international group of artists, performers, dancers, activists, video makers, scholars and organizers that explore the relationship between body and visual images as a form of, self-determination and expression. Their research is nourished by corporeal, somatic, plastic, visual, documentary and political practices. Isadora Pei, AJARIOT’s artistic director, will be directing the project.

What are the requirements to participate?

Passion, motivation and will. There are no special requirements but to bring your initiative and dedication.

 

Are there any costs?

Yes, there are. We cannot afford to host you for free at the campus.  It costs 12 euros per day to live and eat on our campus. If you are unable to pay the full amount, you can apply in the form below to volunteer and help us at our school to cover your living expenses. This option is only for those who cannot afford the stay.

 

How to get to the Campus?

Tvind DNS college is in Ulfborg. The closest airport is Billund Airport. From there you can get a bus and train to Ulfborg or Holstebro. We can then pick you up at the train station. Travel expenses to the Campus are to be covered by you. Any other transportation during the project will be agreed and taken care together with us in the school.

First Session – 4th to the 14th of February;

  • Visit to the performance place on the 4th February at 14.00 in Holstebro;
  • Working session in Tvind DNS College from the 4th to the 14th February.

Second Session – 11th of May to the 14th of June.

  • Working session to develop and build artistic materials, from the 11th to the 25th May;
  • Technical set up and rehearsal on site, from 25th May to 8th June;

What to expect? What will be your role?

  • You will be the driving force of the performance throughout the working sessions.
  • We will build from scratch the concept, the artistic materials, the installations/scenarios, the audio and video materials, and our working schedule together.
  • You will experience how to organize artistic projects and people involved in it.
  • The sessions will be facilitated by Isadora Pei, the artistic director of AJARIOT collective in the form of workshops, however, there is no pre-conceived structure of the performance. Our focus is on the process, on how build it together. Our final product is the performance.
  • First session: 4th to 11th Feb
    • 8h workshop session per day at Tvind DNS College.
    • Visit the space of the performance, talk with staff, technicians and organizers of the festival.
    • Discuss and choose together the working themes.
    • Build group dynamics
    • Work on the concept, structure and artistic materials ideas.
    • Plan all our activities and schedule for the time before and during Festuge Festival.
    • Network
  • Second session:
    • We will properly agree of the schedule of the second session on the first session.
    • We will continue working on the artistic materials, build collectively the performance and rehearsal.
