In Bastar the DNS Teacher Training programme started on the 11th of August 2009 with 50 students. The programme is implemented within the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and is well established as a very effective and result producing programme in the community. After meeting with 10 Headmasters of 10 Primary School children, all ten were chosen for teaching practise, giving a clear sign that the programme is a highly supported one in the community and by the local schools.
The students are provided a ‘Student’s Evaluation’ booklet by which the student can follow and plan their studies and become the driving force in their education and be aware of their achievements. Status meetings every 15 days help to assess and realise their goals.
The students also have an interesting programme called ‘building weekend’ when they build, repair, and paint their school. In Bastar they even used this weekend for the benefit of the government primary school. This helps the students and children to build a sense of responsibility for their school and make it look good.
