Andreea from Romania

Written by Susanne.

"Hi everyone!

My name is Andreea and I come from Romania. I joined DNS because it's a different education from the one I got in my country. I like the programme a lot because it's a very challenging one. I hope that I will improve my theoretical and practical skills and be able to make a difference in the developing countries where there is a huge need of education."

Here it goes..

Well, I guess deciding to enroll in DNS came quite naturally to me..

Through my childhood, I have lived in common life, surrounded by many inspiring and different people. When I look back I think I have gained a lot from this, living very close to others, from different backgrounds, nationalities, and I knew quite early that I wanted to keep working with people.

Later it became clear I wanted to do development work. I wanted to go, where I was needed the most. I have always experienced the world with my own eyes. My parents made sure, that my brother and I saw the world first hand, and before I was 15, I had been travelling in Africa, Russia, and most of Europe. After 10th class, I chose that I wanted to keep travelling and live in social surroundings, and I came to PTG, which is an alternative way to do A-level.

PTG is a school, right next to DNS, where I finished my exams, travelled and lived close to my classmates in a house. I just finished my last exam this August, and will now be in DNS 2009. I could also have started at a Danish University, studying development work, but as I see it 4 years in DNS will teach me much more. For me, one of the best ways to learn, is by doing, the best way to understand people is to work with them, and the best way to learn about the world, is to be in the middle of it.

There are many other things I could write, and maybe I will later. But for now, I’ll just say that Im very exited to start the program. - Louise.

Justyna from Poland

"Show me a day when the world wasn´t new."

I’m Justyna or Justine from Poland, some friends call me ladybird and the others find it really strange, but to be honest I am weird, wild and wonderful, as someone has described- a mixture of creativity and spontaneity.

I have been part of Development Instructor program and  had such a rewarding time packed with new experiences like a canoeing trip with the children. During Summer Theatre I have had endless conversations with DNS students and somehow felt like home in Tvind, therefore I ended up staying for longer. Next day I have enrolled for DNS and it took me some time to adjust but now I know, feel and believe that this is where I should be right now.

I’m convinced that in long term DNS will prepare me better for development work in Africa and will help me to discover what kind of work will be the most satisfying and fulfilling, moreover it will enlighten my views about the world situation and also enriched me with exceptional experiences.

More than anything and above of all in this world people are the main drive in my life, my everlasting love. Therefore as much as it’s possible I surround them with care and love, I track their exceptionality and uniqueness, while generously giving them mine.

All this time, feels like every day I start all over again, I’m looking for my own path... So far I discovered values/ideas which I want to fulfil: goodness of human being and the Mother Earth, love, harmony and development.

Yesterday I have been picking up the cherries and realised that I have made as many friends during my life in London and my youth years in Poland as cherries in the bucket and I definitely cherish every moment in my life and I believe that everything that happens to me happens for me therefore DNS will be another huge challenge and an amazing adventure.

To sum up I would like to use a quote:
"Show me a day when the world wasn’t new."

Definitely there will be no such a day during my DNS time.

Hunor from Hungary

Written by Susanne.

Hi,

my name is Hunor – a 22 year old guy from Hungary.

Have you ever asked yourself the question?:
„What am I doing here?”

Everybody tells you what to do.
Everybody tells you what is good for you.

Nobody wants you to find your own answers.
They want you to believe theirs.
I am working at a multinational company. This place made me realize that the system became more important than the man. In a situation like this all you can do is shut yourself off and let nothing touch you!

You live in a lie! And you pay them to keep you in a lie!

ENOUGH! My time has come to change!

(…..and I start wondering:
How will I feel when I face the poverty in Asia?
What will I say to a student who is suffering from domestical neglect?)

The DNS program gives me a once-in-a-life-time opportunity,
…to experience myself.
…to travel around the world.
…to get to know different cultures.
…to become an individual and a teamplayer at the same time.
…and many other things I cannot dream about

I am looking forward to meeting my class-fellows and begin our way to become Teachers of the Future.

If you feel like sharing this mystery, come and join us!

If you look around, it is easy to see something going on that you don't like...
We say that real values are immortal, but  forget it so often and do not remember...
Of course most of the time is easier just to be blind and flow with the wave...

I'm Rūta Vėželytė and I don't want to close my eyes.
I was studying Philosophy for two years in my home town,
and one morning in my university I've found a student's news paper with information about DNS. Read it and thought, I was waiting for this information for a long time.

So sometimes it looks like there are no coincidences:)
I believe that joining DNS will be not only one of my best experiences, but the bridge for the future to built new roads.

Angela from Germany

Written by Susanne.

I am Angela from Germany.

Finally I decided to enroll for DNS and will start next year in August. 4 years ago I heard for the first time about DNS during an info meeting for the DI program. I liked the idea of DNS since then, but I was too young and didn’t feel ready for such a big challenge. So I started the DI program in Denmark and went after 6 months in Denmark to Malawi.

Honestly I can say that the DI program and the life here changed me completely, so when I came back from Malawi I didn’t feel I belong in Germany anymore and need to do something with my life. I didn’t feel I could go home and continue my life like nothing happened. I saw the need of development and what is needed to do it- while I was looking for new challenges I took the opportunity to become DI teacher for some time. But that wasn’t what I was seeking, so finally after 4 years I enrolled in the DNS program and it feels right. I can’t wait to be in Tvind, meet my team and have another life challenging experience

David from Azores (Portugal)

Hi there!
My name is David and I'm 24 years old.
I'm Portuguese (from São Miguel - Azores), a beautiful island by the way ;)
I decided to enrol myself to DNS because of the program, the opportunity to go to these countries, to give a bit of myself to those who need the most,  helping them with my own two hands.
Also to know new people, new cultures... To develop myself. One learns a bit more everyday! Just keep your eyes open wide. Well sometimes one is a bit sleepy :D  But always ends up learning something :)

I'll see you all very soon!
Fight for a balance not for an excess.

Rock on!

Thomas from Denmark

Written by Annica.

Hi

My name is Thomas; I’m 27 years old and come from DK. I joined DNS because I need new challenges in my life and because this is a good way to get new tools to work with youngsters. I’m educated as a seaman and have been working on ship projects with youngsters for the last 3 years.

DNS gives me a unique chance to develop my teaching skills through the experiences that a team goes through in the 4 years we’re together. The education gives me an opportunity to learn more about different cultures through the travels, and to understand why people do what they do when they live on the edge of the society. I can learn a lot from books but not as much as experiences that I gain through DNS on my own body. And again I’m a more practical than theoretical person so this is a good way for me to take the education that I always wanted.

Now I’m looking forward to seeing my team and to be with them for the next 4 years!

Pawel from Poland

Hi there! My name is Paweł and I come from Poland.

I have chosen DNS to widen my horizons and combine my passion, which is travelling, with education and experiences given by college. Moreover living in a such a multicultural place with open-minded people, can benefit me the most and influance my life in the best direction.

Before I joined DNS I had taken part in a Development Instructor Course in DRH Norway, and had spent 6 months in India being a teacher for local students of Training Center for Global Development. I enjoyed teaching very much and decided that I should follow the path. There is no better option than DNS which is the right place to gain more skills and knowledge.

In my free time I do some team-sports, enjoy swimming, play mind-games like renju or just read books and chilling while listenning to the jazz music.
