Amandine from Switzerland

Written by Susanne.

Here I am - in DNS 2008!

Hi, I'm Amandine from Switzerland, I'm 21 years old. I studied in a social school in my country, and I had the occasion to work with children and teenagers in difficulties, and mentally handicapped people. It was very interesting.

Three years ago, I went on trip in India. Since I came back I would like to work in humanitarians projects. So when I heard about Tvind I wnted to go there, but at this time I didn’t speak in English, so I went to London to work and study. I worked as a nanny there, I stayed in London for 10 months. And now here I am in DNS 2008.

Amin from Sweden/Morocco

Written by Susanne.

Hi, im Amin and I´ve just become a part of DNS. There is this rapper called "Immortal technique", and he has a song called "one".
At the beginning of the song he says; "Not one man can do everything, but everyone can do something"......and I decided to do something.

Ana from Slovenia

Written by Susanne.

Havdej to everyone!

I'm Ana, I'm 20 years old, and I'm from a small country, Slovenia. I had a simple life here, time to time that was totally ok for me, until I went to Easter open house in Tvind. It was amazing. The people and the place was just to hug, and my big wish was to become a part of DNS. Slovenia cannot give me the kind of things, experiences, and that kind of OPEN education and knowledge, as DNS.

My big wish is also to work with people, who have drug problems. In past I lost two very close friends because of drugs. Not physically but psychologically. That was very hard for me and during my heart-washing situations, I was thinking about questions: WHY? WHO? WHERE? HOW? I want to help that kind of people, I want to understand them, talk to them, find solutions and other better goals and things to do… And DNS can also give me that!

It's also great, because DNS is not vertical. DNS is horizontal. That's means, it's not just standing still and waiting, but it takes action! I want to be active, I want to do something, that is good for others and also for me.

I'm writing this profile a few days before I will go to Tvind. It's hard to leave everything; home, my band, youth centre, friends, town, theatre group, Malva coffee… But I decided to change my way of life and join DNS. My "batteries" are full so let's get started! ;)

Matthias from Germany

Written by Susanne.

I am Matthias from Germany, and enrolled myself for DNS team 2008.

I was informed of this special program by a good friend. He woke up my interest by telling me about all the different work you have to do, like working with difficult youngsters in Denmark, helping people in some of the poorest areas in the world, traveling and investigating the life of the people during Asia travel, help to run the teacher training college in Africa for 6 months, getting an alternative education to become an international teacher…

For me this sounded so different, and more exciting than my life in Germany, that I decided to go to the Info-meeting up in Tvind. Here I met many nice people who answered all my questions I had.

Now I am here in Tvind to do some promotion work, so that there will be a nice DNS team 2008, and why not with you?

Lisi from Austria

Written by Susanne.

Servas, I was searching for something special and I'm very happy to have found something special ...

One day I woke up and found my self on a crossing. I had to ask myself what I'm here for and especially what I want to do with my life. Since this time I tried to live my decision of freedom. Until now I explored, that I know nothing ...

So I'm happy that I found DNS where young people are learning together by doing, working and travelling. That sounds fantastic and smells like gooooooooooooood times. I was looking for a long time for something like that.

Hopefully DNS, the colleagues and especially the kids, will make me wiser. I'm looking forward to it and say thank you in advance:)

Theresa from Germany

Written by Susanne.

I am from Germany and turning 20. I had a really normal life you can say. My parents gave me a lot of wonderful opportunities to grow up and express myself.

I never missed something in my childhood. But at 16 I changed. Nobody around me understood the decisions I made in this time. I mean I was a-student with best judgments and great possibilities.

My parents are kind of conservative, they always believed that I will finish school as best, having a “normal” study and “normal” life. But I decided to follow my heart.
I moved out of my parents house to live in a really small apartment. I can tell you I felt great with it! I felt independent and free. I started to realize, that life is more than just going the way society told me. So , I took all my courage and left the old way totally. I always thought that there must be more than this. When I was 17 I broke up school and travelled around Europe.
This year was a whole new experience for me. Life changed from one moment to an other completely. I was living in the streets, earning my money by doing street-art. All my possessions are pressed in one big bag for the next 12 months. I often got on my borders and over crossed them.
In this time DNS was already in my mind. I heard about it before all these changes happened, and maybe it was one reason for all these. DNS showed me that there is a different way of sharing life together.
A second reason to enrol was that the school system in Germany sucks. Teachers are talking and student are listening. That can't be all! Education in Germany just wants to put as much as possible in your brain. Doesn’t matter if you understand or even need it!
Education should bee seen as a gift, as something that gives a base and wakes up passions. People can be so lucky to have free education, but most of them are not.
I know that I am not alone with my spirit, there are so many people having the same ideas of living together and that makes me sure that a change can happen. And DNS gives me the base for it.

Maxi from Germany

Written by Susanne.

Hey, hey...

My name is Maxi, I am 21 years old and well, most importantly, I am part of DNS 2008! Before I joined this teacher training, I have been a Development Instructor in DRH Holsted, and later on, I went to TCE in Namibia. There, I did not just enjoy my work, but it inspired me so much that I found out what I really want to do in and with my life – I want to be a teacher!

I want to get the profession of being an inspiring, a motivating primary school teacher to later on be able to give those experiences to future-teachers. This means working at a teacher training college myself!

…and to realize this dream also considering that I want to teach in Africa, DNS Tvind is definitely the best education I can get!

So what more can I tell you? Just go for your dreams! Realize them… and never forget that everything is gonna be alright! Hope to see you soon up here – And remember: dreams should always be put in place of reality ;)

Have a blessed day, Maxi

Luisa from Italy

Written by Susanne.

Hi I’m Luisa from Italy. I just became a member of 2008 team, and I’m so happy for that because I needed to change my lifestyle completely, and I want to enrich myself! I’m 37 and until now I’ve worked in many places, and I did  a lot of different kinds of jobs, but I always felt there was something missing in my life…

I am also very close to having my degree in Anthropology at the university, but for the reality of my country, I’m too old now to use it for working!

The DNS program is a big opportunity for me to realize myself and to be able to help the others in some kind of  tangible way; teaching and working with disadvantaged people, especially with youngsters. That was my old dream when I started the university!

I always believe that education is a universal right for everyone, and is especially fundamental for the people of the South of the World, to give them a chance in life to improve their condition, and the DNS education can realize that! Ciao! Luisa

Julka from Lithuania

Written by Susanne.

My name is Julija, but everybody calls me Julka.

Julka from Lithuania. Right now I am 22 years old, an age when one is responsible for the future, an age when ones decisions will influence the rest of their life.

I decided to build my future with the help of DNS, and now I am a member of team 2008. Why DNS? Well, there are many reasons for that. First of all, learning by doing sounds much better than just learning. Theoretic without practise loses its meaning, DNS offers me both. Other things are traveling, meeting new people, discovering new cultures, facing new problems and most importantly, solving them.

And the main reason is that now I have an opportunity to experience things in four years which some of us can‘t experience during our whole lifetime. Isn't it a challenge?

Tamas from Slovakia

Written by Susanne.

I came to DNS after some unsuccesful attemps at universities (hungarian language and literature, and computer studies) I moved to Budapest and studied to be a cook. I worked on a kitchen for more than a year, and thought I still love cooking I thought that maybe there`s more to life than handing out meals all day. I moved to England to do some voluntary work, but after two months I heard about the DNS program and I realised that this is what I wanted to do, this program can help me to improve myself in all sorts of ways. It took some time untill I could move here, but now with my first week almost behind me I think I made the right decision.

Matus from Slovakia

Written by Susanne.

Hi, my name Matus, from Slovakia. When I saw the study program DNS I was like uaaa.. I want to do it. It combines lots of things that sound good. So I came here, enjoying every day, and looking forward to every day (or almost every day :-))

Ausra from Lithuania

Written by Susanne.

Hello!
I'm Aušra from Lithuania, I'm 28 years old. Only two months ago I didn't know anything about DNS, and now I am a member of the DNS team 2008. I am very glad to be here ;) I am a teacher already but in my opinion DNS education is different and because of that many people from EU choose DNS to become teachers. The great thing is also the practical knowledge and skills, that is the main thing to REALLY become a teacher!
People here don't just study but also help those who really need that, and I can't wait to become also a part of this great world.

DNS 2008, I'm coming!

Paul from Germany

Written by Susanne.

Hey, I’m Paul from Berlin-Germany.

Before I came to Denmark to enroll myself for the DNS-program I studied philosophy in University, but I didn’t like the way how the teachers taught something so vital in such a dry way, that every word lost its “magic” and was in the end nothing else than symbols without any relation to possible actions or reality.

A dry art.

Before I started University I travelled for 3 years in Africa and liked the practical knowledge which I gained through my experiences.

I decided to join DNS for exactly these reasons, an education which combines the practical experiences with the theoretical knowledge to learn from them and to share them with others.

DNS is a place where you cannot just learn theoretical knowledge and gain experiences , but share them with the ones who can contribute from them …..and make your words to actions… for that they become “magic”.
