Why is DNS necessary ?

Written by Susanne.

To enable you as a DNS student to fulfil the important tasks of a teacher, it is necessary to constantly find yourself in situations of real life and teaching, and to engage with the people, for whom the school is of utmost importance, namely the children and their parents.

As a DNS student you shall gain a comprehensive knowledge about all the different aspects which belong to life on our planet, like an understanding of the Universe and the Earth, understanding of human beings, nature and development, our history, present and future of production, economy and politics, life sustainability, languages, Global Warming and Climate Change, the world of sports, the smiles of the muses, Physics and Chemistry, Biology, Media and Information - just to mention some of the many aspects that future teachers should master.

A teacher needs a large variety of experience from many walks of life. At DNS you will experience peoples’ lives in poor parts of the world: in the villages as well as in cities; the poor who struggle for survival as well as the rich ones and the growing middleclass, who struggle to create themselves a place in our world of today.

You shall experience your own society – or rather the European societies. How are all the different people living here? How do they cope with the problems here like financial crisis, obesity or loneliness?
How is life for the parents of the children, who the teacher will meet in the school? How are the lives for the different social groups we find in the European setting? - The immigrants? The working people? The well-offs? What are people’s aspirations and hopes for the lives of their children? What are their hopes and dreams of the future?

You shall get to know about the children and their world.
You shall make educational investigations in the communities.
You shall study about sociology of the child, groups and institutions.
You shall study about philosophy of educations and about psychology.
You shall learn about development of education, sociolinguistics and methods of teaching for basic education.
You shall apply methods and means of teaching and learning as well as planning, coordination and administration.

For all of this it is necessary to form a teacher training program, which places you, the student in obliging situations where you will experience, work and change by doing practical and theoretical studies combined.
